This happened the first couple of times I played Faster than Light. The soundtrack/sound design is phenomenal. I found myself getting slapped back into the game by a lucky missile strike. If you haven’t checked out FTL, I highly recommend it – probably the best game purchase I’ve made in the last six months – for the replayability alone. If you like chiptune style video game music, you can listen to the entire soundtrack of the game for free on bandcamp (think MegaMan meets Anamanaguchi).
